The Power of Networking
"You can have everything in life you want, if you will just help other people get what they want." – Zig Ziglar
Introduction
Good morning everyone, I hope you have all had a great weekend. The day I am writing this is Sunday September 21, 2025, and for this week's blog I wanted to talk about something I had gone to do this weekend, and as you can tell from the title, that is networking.
I have heard many times before about the importance of networking and relationships, and I'm sure that you have too. It makes sense that it is mentioned so often and that it is stressed upon, it's not only how you get your products or services out there but also how you learn more about other businesses, and potential partners, investors, customers, or products and services that you can use.
So in this particular blog I will discuss the importance of networking, get down to the details on how to do it, and best places to find connections.
Why is Networking Important?
According to Harvard Business Review, "(1) Research shows that people with stronger networks have higher salaries and get more promotions throughout their careers. Another study shows that those who network effectively have higher performance ratings because they amass more insights from others."
Networking doesn't just need to be for new opportunities, as the quote said, it can be about getting feedback from others about your business and improving your customer satisfaction.
Aside from everyone saying that networking is important, just logically thinking about it makes sense too. People promote and praise and think about people they know. If you constantly put yourself out there, work on projects or provide your services for a low cost or even for free at first, and you're consistent, you become that person's number one guy for that task. I believe that making personal connections with people is what will truly set you apart.
What I have learned at the Romanian Community Summit is just that. Making personal connections with people is how you show your best self to others, build strong bonds, and go from there. I don't think that people should only talk to others for their own benefit, then you act like your performing and you have to be this picture perfect person to ensure people like you. just look for an honest connection, and opportunities will unlock for you.
So with the understanding of why networking is so important, a question you may ask yourself next is, "how do I network?"
How to Network Efficiently and Properly
If you are a college student reading this, the easiest connections for you to make are your peers. Talk with them, work on homework and projects together, understand their background and their interests, and again, build personal connections. I am in college and I have done that a lot my first year, and I can personally tell you that the bonds you make struggling over homework and finding the solutions together is unlike any other. Coming together with other people to use the collective brainpower and ideas in everyone's minds is an amazing experience, making the process more exciting and the solution more rewarding.
Professors are also a great connection gateway. Getting to know your professors unlocks a lot of doors for you. Whether they are in the same field that you are interested in, or they know people in other domains that can be to your aid is crucial for getting started with your network.
If you are not in college and you have your own business, I believe social media is one of the strongest ways to get a surface level network. What I mean by that is adding people on LinkedIn or Instagram doesn't fully connect you with that person. Sure, you can message them and get a conversation going from there, but how often does that happen?
I believe the best way to network effectively is going to events that are hosted for business owners, investors, and people in politics. They know a lot about the field they are in, they have strong connections, and I have discovered that most of them want to share what they know, mentoring the young entrepreneurs out there to become successful. Go up, talk to them, ask them more about their business and experiences, and you have unlocked tons of potential. It may not be instant, but one day it will come in handy.
Where Do I Find These Events?
The best place to start is getting involved with the people who share your culture. You already share the same culture, language, and beliefs. Church picnics or church held events, communities of your culture often times hold meetings and conferences, and many more events related to your culture and community are beneficial.
I have come to that realization a bit ago, but it really clicked for me just yesterday when I was at that event. As I previously mentioned, people at your school are great to know as well, peers and professors. Colleges also host events with owners or other big people that you can use to understand more about that specific person, and again, build a personal connection with them. Lastly, Facebook groups of your same niche, or people that you want to target are amazing ways to get yourself out there, tell them a bit about who you are and what you do, and it can be seen by a lot of people at once. I know I said earlier that social media isn't the best way, but in the sense that I am using it here is different because you're now on the flip side of the "hosted events," where you are the one now talking about your business and other folks who are interested are contacting you.
Conclusion
Thank you for tuning in for this blog, I enjoyed writing this and I hope you enjoyed reading it. I also hope that you learned something from this, it was mainly as a way to reflect about my experience yesterday but I wanted to be informational in the process.
